Check out Forgotten-NY! Our Wyckoff Avenue train station is undergoing a $60 million renovation that will improve the appearance and accessibility of trains in Ridgewood. The “L” is one of only a few subways that stops on both the east and west sides of Manhattan. The “L” recently held the title of the best subway in New York. From Ridgewood you can actually get a seat in the morning. The “L” gives you an easy transfer to the east side -4,5, &6 or the Broadway lines or the west side’s “A”,”C” and “E”. Buses go directly to downtown Brooklyn, the newly expanded Queens Mall and other destinations for only one fare. We even have express buses to Manhattan from Ridgewood. On the Jackie Robinson Parkway we are only 15 minutes from JFK and about the same to LaGuardia, without being in a flight path. . The Long Island Expressway and the Brooklyn Queens Expressway of a few minutes travel outside of Ridgewood. However, you don’t have to leave Ridgewood to shop or have a good time. Myrtle Avenue is home to over 300 stores and Freshpond Road, Forest Avenue and Seneca Avenue have many more. On the northern end of Ridgewood Grover Cleveland park is completing its renovation while at the south, a new park is being planned in a 50 acre site that has just been turned over to the Park’s Dept. Ridgewood speaks your language. Church services are held in English, German, Spanish, Polish, Korean, Romanian, Serbian and others. Immigrants have always been welcome from the first Germans to the most recent wave of Poles. A robust Mexican, Ecuadorian and Gypsy communities live and have ethnic organizations in Ridgewood. German and Polish language schools, a Slavic bank, A German sports club, A Serbian social club and a Hispanic civic organization are part of the fabric of the community. `Ridgewood must be a good place to raise kids because there are! 3,000 students among our 60,000 residents. The Ridgewood library will soon double in size and will be the first library in Queens to have a wireless local area network. We have one new public school and many fine Catholic schools. A Lutheran and Catholic high schools are one bus ride away, as is LaGuardia Community College. Ridgewood is also business friendly. At one point we had over 140 knitting mills in town and in the last century beer was a major industry. We have our own Business Improvement District and a Local Development Corporation to help businesses prosper and now we have our own WEB site.
